Last night I got sucked into watching 6 straight hours of a tv show called Storm Chasers.  I watched from 5pm until 11pm.  Why I watched for that long, I have no idea.

Each episode was unique but you could hardly tell from watching it.

Each episodes follows the exploits of 2 storm chasing teams.

One team is made up of about 5 or 6 vehicles that include a mobile doppler, a few science vehicles and a IMAX film team in a vehicle known as the ‘Tornado Intercept Vehicle‘ or T.I.V..  It looks like something from ‘Mad Max‘.

The other team is a one vehicle operation from TornadoVideos.net.  These guys attempt to get as close as safely possible to the storm and record video.

Here is a quick synopsis (it applies to any episode).
The ’storm chasers’ are sitting in a dining room at some crappy motel in middle America (Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, etc….) and they decide where to driver depending on weather radar information.  Some of them argue with each because they disagree about which storm to chase.
They driver a couple hundred miles to get to the storm and they start fanning out to film it or deploy probes to measure data.
They find the storm, driver fast in attempt to stay in front of it to catch as many tornados as possible.  Meanwhile the T.I.V. is constantly on the move trying to deteremine where a funnel might touch down so it can enter the cyclone to film it with IMAX technology.
That is pretty much it.  I still have no clue why I watched almost 6 hours.  I guess I was just waiting for disaster.

Here is the 4th Battlestar Galactica webisode.

The Deadliest Catch

April 16, 2008

Just one minute until a new season of The Deadliest Catch on The Discovery Channel.  I can’t get enough watching guys on boats pulling up large cages full of crabs.  I know it is weird.

UPDATE
So in the first (of two) episodes, the captain of the Wizard refused to start fishing until his crew searched for a ‘Cup of Noodles’ styrofoam cup so he could use it as a spit cup for his tobacco.  And of course they never found it.
And one boat replace the pot of another boat with a smashed junk car.  Always the pranksters.
(File under why should we care)
