I found this excellent podcast of a Nada Surf concert while trying to find something to listen to while at work. It is provided as part of NPR’s Live In Concert from All Songs Considered Podcast.

This should be a short entry as I don’t consider myself much of a reviewer. For some reason the thoughts in my head never seems as translate well into the written word. Anyway.

I attended the Ben Folds show at The Electric Factory on Saturday night. From a musical perspective this was easily the best show I’ve ever attended. Ben even showed us how he makes the cool sound effects on the song “Free Coffee” by placing a couple of boxes of Altoids on the piano strings and using a distortion pedal. It was pretty freaking cool. (See I suck at reviewing things. The show was awesome and that is all I could say about it.)

Now to the bad shit. I love live music. I hate the people who go see live music. I hate most of the places I have to go to see live music.

The crowd had it’s fair share of meatheads. The second Mr. Folds played song the meatheads like they turn into little girls, start swaying and bobbing their heads. When something they don’t like is played they start yapping like no one else is there, or forcing the crowd to get out of their way so they can make another trip to the bar.

Lastly the human body wasn’t made to stand in one place without moving to 3+ hours. The Electric Factory is general admission. There are a few stools and chairs around but I imagine you need to be at the show 2 hours before to get one of those. This was a sold out show so if you have a good vantage point you pretty much had to stay in the spot or lose it because someone was just ready to fill the space if you vacated it.
After 3 hours my knees and back were pretty much shot. I’m still sore 2 days later.

Next time I hope he plays at a slightly larger venue that has seats so my old, tired ass can enjoy the music and not torture my body.
